Daftar Remapping School Memories

Brief

School buildings play a vital role in everyone’s spacial awareness and development, from territorial understanding of hangar spots, to vantage points looking out the classroom’s window. Those buildings are also a historical time capsule of the prevailing architectural language used during the era’s the structure was built in.

This workshop focuses on Liwan’s building built in the 1950s that used to house Qatar’s first all-girls school, Banat Al-Doha, later renamed Um Almo’mneen. Focusing on the various architectural elements that make this building uniquely mid-century modern.


Outcome

By recreating a school day throughout the length of the workshops the participants will be encouraged to revise their childhood memories of school life and fill out their notebooks (zines) with their observations of the building along with their recollections of school days.
