Hawally Bound - Kuwait
Brief
Hawally Bound is a series of workshops in collaboration with Promenade Culture Centre for those who share our interest in heritage, architectural documentation and storytelling. Cities have long evolved and transformed over the years to respond to people’s behaviour and needs. Hawally is a prime example of that. Home to many structures that date back to the early modernization of Kuwait, Hawally has become an urban backdrop that is often overlooked by researchers in favor of the capital.
Through the workshop, participants curated a cultural map of Hawally shedding light on various routes, nodes and connections running through the city. The subsequent pages are a collection of findings and observations of the city’s rich landmarks and unique urban fabric, represented through the cultural map, block prints, and images collectively created with the workshop participants, mentors and collaborators.

Outcome
Participants collectively worked on creating a map of Hawally by highlighting important routes, nodes and connections. This culminated in a tapestry of block and stencil prints of the map along with a Zine created by IN Narrative based on the workshop’s findings.
